As proctors examine the behavior of remote UX test takers, they learn how long users take to develop a process, and how long they spend on each part of that process. This provides insight into their users’ thought processes, and knowledge about their behavior by observing how students interact with content. Students’ eyes become windows to their intentions as proctors are able to see what they see.
Of course, exam takers are not only students at educational institutions, but it can be used for research, training, or professional exams at large and small companies, or for licensing requirements at government institutions, among many other professional testing applications.
A single proctor overseeing exams means fewer testing staff is needed and less training of staff is required. Participants take important exams in their natural environments without the need to travel to distant testing centers. Once testing is completed, the results, analysis and feedback are produced quickly, allowing for better time management and more testing in shorter amounts of time. Proctors can test a lot more people in a lot less time, and with far less effort. A large sample size of test participants can also provide more accurate data.
It is a modern form of technological innovation that could become the preferable method of testing and/or research. Since proctors and participants are in separate locations, it provides the use of advanced online tools that collects data and generates insights much faster than traditional methods of testing since tests are data-driven. Finding participants is easier, faster and cheaper since users can be a broader and more diverse range of people from different parts of the country, or the world. Overhead is reduced since users, as well as proctors, require only a device and internet connection. Requiring participants to get to a specific testing site frequently becomes a challenge, so with remote testing, users can participate in a more natural environment. Remote UX testing is becoming more and more popular in our modern day world full of stressful schedules.
